Quotes from Spotlight

If it takes a village to raise a child, it takes a village to abuse them. That’s the truth of it. Mitchell Garabedian

Synopsis and Critique of Spotlight

Spotlight Synopsis: A team of reporters called “Spotlight,” who work in the Boston Globe, discover traces of a decades-long cover-up at the highest levels of Boston’s religious, legal and government establishment while they are investigating into allegations of abuse in the Catholic Church. What they will discover might end up being way bigger than they ever thought when they started delving into this investigation. Danny B.

Spotlight Critique: “Based on a true story;” whenever you see this at the beginning of a movie,  you start to think that there will be a lot of room in the movie to tolerate some mediocre acting, directing or photography for the sake of watching a true story. Well, the case is so different in Spotlight. The acting, directing, photography and other aspects of the movie made it more believable than this phrase written at the beginning of it. Some might criticize the content of the movie, maybe based on some prejudiced background, especially because the man who stirs up the investigation against the Catholic Church is a jew, but the way I see it is that Spotlight is a very important movie in the sense of raising awareness about the problem of child abuse, no matter who the abusers might be. The moment a man decides to take innocence from those little angels, he turns into a monster that has nothing to do with any religion or god, whatsoever. This movie is a call to lift this veil covering the eyes of the good people who may think that if a man is branded as a priest or a so-called servant of God, he is a god. A lot of people are out there waiting for someone to say something about it. There is no shame in telling the truth. Spotlight is a must-see movie, even if you know about the real story that happened back between 2001-2002. Danny B.
